The Stamps Quartet - 1994 - Where Could I Go

The Stamps Quartet was formed originally in 1924, this quartet boasts the longest history of any male quartet.
V.O. Stamps was the first to introduce “southern style Gospel singing” across America.

The original Stamps Quartet was the first to record Gospel songs for a major recording company. Released on the “Victor” label, “Give The World A Smile”, became the theme song for the Stamps Quartet and sold just under a million copies.

The perseverance and originality of the first Stamps Quartet enabled the Gospel music industry to drastically increase in popularity. They were the “first” white Gospel group to record for a major recording label and, in turn, their success with the recording of “Give The World A Smile”, opened recording opportunities for other quartets. Quartet style and music has changed with time, but the work of early pioneers paved the road for Gospel music today.

There were many people who were influential to the Stamps Quartet, and among the most prominent was

Albert E. Brumley of Powell, Missouri. Mr. Brumley is known and loved as one of the greatest Gospel song writers of all time having written such wonderful compositions as I’ll Fly Away, I’ll Meet You In The Morning, If We Never Meet Again, and many others. Albert E. Brumley was a special friend and associate to the Stamps and endearing to all he met.

In 1971, The Stamps Quartet started performing regularly with Elvis Presley on many recordings and toured in concert as back-up artists until his untimely death in 1977.

Elvis was known the world over by his first name. He is regarded as one of the most important figures of the twentieth century popular culture. Elvis had charm, talent, good looks and humor that endeared him to millions, as did the human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Elvis’s musical influence were the pop and country music of the day - but it was the Gospel music he heard in church and at the all-night Gospel sings he frequently attended as a teenager that really made the impact on his life. By 1956 Elvis was an international sensation.

Elvis, who called The Stamps his favorite singers, once said that, Ed Enoch, lead singer - had the “most powerful and best lead voice in Gospel music.” Ed’s proficiency in Elvis music has resulted in a long professional friendship with the management of Graceland and SEG Events, who frequently call on his talents for concerts and special events.

The Stamps Quartet was the first Gospel – professional quartet to sing world-wide on television via satellite on Elvis Presley’s – “Aloha From Hawaii”, video. They also appeared in the video and television special, “Elvis On Tour”.

The Stamps Quartet is also credited as being one of the greatest success stories in the Gospel music industry. They are known as being the best professional Gospel quartet with a distinctive “full-sound”. In terms of harmony, syncopation, diction, repertoire, and appearance, The Stamps Quartet is unsurpassed in the Gospel and secular music industry. Their professionalism is truly exemplified as they perform.

Ed Enoch, owner – manager – lead singer - is continuing the legacy of The Stamps Quartet. The Stamps continue to make recordings, are regularly seen on television and they constantly tour the United States, Canada, Hawaii, and European and Asian countries performing Gospel, secular, and Elvis music as only they can.

Members of the legendary Stamps Quartet were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1997. They have received numerous Grammy and Dove Awards for “The Best Gospel Group” and “The Best Gospel Album”, of the year.

The Stamps have performed at such prestigious venues as the world renown, Radio City Music Hall, New York City, Madison Square Garden, New York City, The Astrodome, Houston, Texas, The Silver Dome, Pontiac, Michigan; Grand Old Opry, Nashville, Tennessee. NBC Dateline News Special – 2002. Performances with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Gaither Homecoming Videos. Elvis – He Touched Me videos. Gospel Side of Elvis recording featuring The Stamps Quartet and the Imperials Quartet. Television specials: TNN – TBN – CBS – NBC – GMT – PBS. Special guests on Crook and Chase Show, the Ralph Emery Show, Nashville Now. Numerous performances at State and County fairs – festivals throughout the United States, Canada, and International festivals as well. What A Friend

I have a Friend, ‘tis Jesus, Whose love He freely shares; With every pain or heart-ache, I feel and know He cares.

What a joy it is to know HIM; What a privilege to share; What a book of wonderful promises; Why should we doubt or fear?

During the days of sadness, when some one we loved so dear, has slipped away to meet Him, He whispers, “Lean hard, I am near.”

What could we do without Him, when on HIM all depends, our hope, our strength, our courage, AND forgiveness from our sins.

HE took our sins upon HIM, and bore that awful shame. That all who believe upon HIM, should bear HIS precious name.

So let us be ready to meet HIM, in that place He’s gone to prepare. Where no more heart-aches or sorrows, can ever reach us there.

What a wonderful joy and privilege, that glorious home to share; To be transformed into HIS likeness, when we meet HIM in the air.

So satan get behind us. You have caused us many a tear. Praise God for that home in glory, for you’ll never bother us there.

Written By: Tract Evangelistic Crusade

John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that HE gave His only begotten SON - that whosoever believeth on HIM shall NOT perish, but have everlasting life.
